Methodology
How the index is built
Query set
Forty to sixty client questions per practice area, from 'do I need a lawyer' to 'who is the best near me', in English and in the community language where relevant.
Engines and runs
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Each query runs several times across two weeks; results are averaged.
What is logged
Every firm named, every source linked, the position in the answer, and the language of the response.

A quarterly dataset recording which law firms ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews name for a fixed set of client questions across eight practice areas and twelve Los Angeles sub-markets. The first edition is being collected now.
Each query is run through each engine several times over two weeks, with firm names and cited sources logged. Rates are averaged to control for run-to-run variance. The query set and dates are published with each edition.
Yes, for cited firms, because the data is public and the point is transparency. Client firms are never identified as clients.
Firms that complete a free audit receive their own slice of the index before the public release.
